My regular-ish column at Face Beat It is now a regular-ish podcast! In this first episode, Jackie Ross and I talked about something we know a few things about: running tournaments.
I’m proud of this podcast more than my usual work for a handful of reasons. It’s my first time actually recording the podcast instead of just calling in or going to Ryan Smythe’s house to record and make him do all the work of recording, working on sound quality, and editing. However, he did edit this pod and get me a sweet intro and outro, because he’s the best producer a girl could ask for.
It also feels good to create something informative and useful. I like tournament directing, but I’m largely self-taught. Sharing what I’ve learned is the least I can do for a community that has given me so much.
Recording a podcast isn’t just a question of sitting in front of a mic and bullshitting for an hour. (Though I was guilty of that once upon a time.) I’ve learned so much in the past year, but the biggest lesson has been on the importance of research and prep work.
Anyway, have a listen.
Oh, and here’s a link to the TD checklist I mentioned in the podcast.
