2017 Year in Review: Career

I put off this edition of my Year in Review for last because it’s the hardest one to write. It means admitting failure, something I hate doing. That hardly makes me special; nobody likes feeling like they’ve fallen short.

And yet, here I am. I have a pile of W2s waiting for me to do my taxes. Let’s find out why.

This blog is a bit of an escape for me and my posts lately are a reflection of that. We might still be living in the Darkest Timeline, but I’m not really writing about it anymore. Quidditch is an escape. Appearances are an escape. But if this week has a theme, it’s that shit’s gonna get real for a few posts.

I wish I could say that my Year in Review series is ending on a high note, but (spoiler alert!) the ups and downs of my professional life aren’t exactly the most uplifting or inspiring content. But hey, I learned some things, and there’s something to be said for that. Read about that on Tuesday.

On Friday, I’ll be driving down to SoCal for a small quidditch tournament that you probably haven’t heard about and isn’t worth mentioning. You’ll be reading about a moment from last week brought to you by yellow tights and #metoo.

For another take on #metoo and how to consume content you love created by problematic (ugh, I hate that word) figures, check out my friend Cupcake’s post on that very topic.

Don’t worry, I’ll get back to the harmless escapism soon. Promise.

2017 Year in Review: Style

Most of my style content last year was Stitch Fix reviews. I thought about rehashing a year’s worth of them and calling it a day. But because I’m me, I decided to trash that draft on Tuesday morning because I had a better idea.
Instead, I’m taking a broader view of what I liked (and didn’t) as I head into a new year with a (slightly) more adult wardrobe.

2017 Year in Review: Quidditch

Holy shit, how it is 2018 already?  Is it because every year takes up a smaller percentage of my life and therefore feels increasingly insignificant? Is it because I can feel my youth slipping away from me in silver hairs and creaky joints?

A new year is as good a time as any to reflect back on the last 3.1% of my life. (I think it did the math right. But if you ever had a look at any of my math grades, you’d know that the likelihood of me getting it wrong is pretty high.) Each week for the rest of the month, I’ll be looking back at some of the things I blogged about the most in 2017.

So, let’s start with the topic that gets more hits to my blog than anything else: quidditch.
