EXPERIENCE

US Quidditch — Editorial Coordinator
May 2017 – Present

I am currently in the process of creating the editorial calendar, refreshing the style guide, and updating the voice and vision of USQ editorial. I am the primary writer for editorial features as well as the primary editor for all guest writers. I coordinate the photos and graphics needed for each feature.

Joomag — Content Writer
January 2017 – Present

I’m the lead writer for the Joomag Design Academy blog, which is focused on providing content to make magazine design accessible to anyone who wants to create their own digital publication. I created and currently run the editorial calendar, write about basics like color theory and typography, seek out new trends in design, and make sure that our articles are shareable and SEO friendly. My other duties include writing case studies and assisting other departments with writing and editing projects.

POSSO — Portuguese Teacher
August 2015 – Present

I teach Portuguese using lesson plans of my own devising to students aged 6-12. I take into consideration varying levels of previous Portuguese knowledge, student ages, and mental development in my classroom when planning and carrying out my lessons.

realtor.com — Editorial Intern
October 2016 – January 2017

I wrote real estate articles as well as video scripts and on-screen copy. I reached out to Realtors and other sources to interview them for articles or recruit them for video shoots. I used WordPress to manage our content as well as syndicate articles from our sister publications: The Wall Street Journal, Marketwatch, and New York Post. I assisted with social media outreach by contributing to realtor.com’s Pinterest board and by leading discussions in the House Talk forums.

US Quidditch — West Regional Coordinator
September 2015 – October 2016

I coordinated and communicated with schools, teams, players, and leaders from over thirty teams in the states of Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah. I provided information about league deadlines, news updates, and rule changes. I represented the region’s needs to the league. I supported the sport in regions of heavy team concentration (the SF Bay Area, the Greater LA Area, AZ, Salt Lake City) as well as nurture team growth in areas where teams are only just emerging (Hawaii, far Northern California, the Central Valley). I ran the @WestQuidditch Twitter account and moderated the USQ West Region Facebook group.

In my secondary role as Northern California Quidditch Conference Commissioner, I scheduled and supervised tournaments of 5-11 teams on a monthly basis. I created budgets, collected tournament dues, paid officials and safety personnel, promoted the conference on social media, and wrote event schedules. I ran the @NorCalQuidditch Twitter account and moderated the NCQC Facebook group.

Reed Magazine — Lead Poetry Editor
August 2015 – December 2015

I supervised a team of four poetry editors responsible for reading over a thousand submissions and selecting twenty for publication in the Spring 2016 edition of Reed Magazine, the oldest literary magazine west of the Mississippi. I maintained relationships with both accepted and rejected authors as well as senior editorial staff.

Bay Area Tutoring Association — Academic Tutor
February 2015 – August 2015

I worked at several offsite programs: I created and taught linguistics lessons for third graders at Rocketship Los Suenos Academy, tutored students repeating English during the summer at Oak Grove High School, and tutored middle school students repeating math at Ace Academy.

San Jose State University — Academic English Coach
August 2014 – December 2014

I coached first-year SJSU students in groups of 4-12, was assigned to tutor international and ESL students, developed their critical thinking, reading, and writing skills, and provided support to the Academic English 001 course.

West Valley College — Writing Center Tutor
January 2013 – May 2013

I provided one on one tutoring with students, with skill levels ranging from remedial and ESL to honors. I also coached students on the writing process from basic grammar and mechanics to essay organization and research strategies.

West Valley Voices — Editor-in-Chief
September 2012 – May 2013

I was a founding member of the second iteration of Voices, West Valley College’s literary magazine. I recruited additional officers and editors from the student body. I coordinated the solicitation of submissions from the West Valley community and led editorial meetings, working with the Art Editor, Poetry Editor, and Prose Editor to select content for the magazine. I taught the staff the basic concepts of InDesign and led the process of creating magazine layouts.
