I was the Communications Director for this campaign. While the client already had a logo and color scheme picked out, I was tasked with building that out into a fully formed brand.
My responsibilities on the campaign included:
- Creating and managing the editorial calendar for social media, web, and email
- Graphic design
- Copywriting for email and social media
- Online volunteer recruitment and coordination
Endorsements
We highlighted Justin’s endorsements from organizations, local elected officials, and members of the community. Our endorsements always tied back to Justin’s progressive values, homegrown credentials as a product of West San José, and expertise in serving his community as a Planning Commissioner.

Fundraising Asks
We kept the fundraising fresh and friendly by injecting strong design and a bit of humor into timely asks. This was done to help him stand out from the crowd during a busy fundraising season, a contributing factor to his being the leading fundraiser in his race in the first fundraising period.

Just asking for money is a quick way to burn through your email lists. We were sure to include updates and wins before making fundraising asks, and always tied in volunteer asks as well. Justin was committed to running a people-powered campaign so fundraising was always just as important as recruiting volunteers.
